Welcome to an Evening Performance of Twelfth Night

Optimist Theatre, with the support of Alverno College, is pleased to present William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Thank you for being a part of it.

Reservation

If you have confirmed seats, you will have received a duplicate of this page directly via email from our wonderful Box Office lady.  That email would confirm the name of the reservation,the date of the performance you are attending and the total number in your party.  In addition it would provide the following guidance…

The Evening – in a Nutshell

6:00 p.m.

  • Reserved seating check-in opens
  • Waiting List and Walk-In seating registration opens
  • Lawn chair seating check-in open — priority is given to people on the waiting list.
  • Displays will be out and merchandise sales will begin
  • Food concessions open.  Come early and picnic or enjoy a burger, brat or entrée on sale at Alverno.  Concessions will be cash only.

6:45-7:00 p.m.

  • Pre-show musical entertainment begins

7:00 p.m.  (Approximate time)

  • Audience seating opens and you may select your chairs or lawn space

7:45 p.m.

  • Walk-in seating assignments begin

NOTE: If you reserved seats but haven’t checked in by 7:45 p.m., your seats will be released to walk-in patrons.

7:50 p.m.

  • We will announce show time in 10 minutes.

8:00 p.m.

  • Curtain.
  • Run time is approximately 2 hours.
  • There will be one 15 minute intermission.

Post Show

  • There will be performer talk backs on evenings where a request has been made.  We will announce whether or not one is scheduled at the pre-show curtain speech.

The Evening – Details

Where

Twelfth Night will be performed on the campus of Alverno College in the Alumnae Courtyard.  Alverno is located at 3400 S. 43rd Street, Milwaukee, WI  53234.  Detailed directions are at the end of these instructions.

How

Twelfth Night is brought to you by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Milwaukee Arts Board, our generous hosts Alverno College, and people like you.  The performance is free to the public, but your donations make it possible.

About the Courtyard

The performance is outdoors. There is no shading over the Courtyard area.  For your own comfort, bring bug spray and sunscreen.   Please do not bring personal umbrellas as they will block visibility for audience members seated behind you.

To get to the Alumnae Courtyard and the Shakespeare Festival, enter the Alverno campus from the main entrance on 43rd Street.

Note:  If you’re used to going to Alverno for events in the Pitman Theatre, the Alumnae Courtyard is on the opposite side of the campus.

Parking

From the entrance on 43rd Street, there is a multi-story parking structure on your left.  Parking is free.

Drop-Off

To drop people closer to the festival, drive past the parking structure entrance, veer right with the road, and take a left into the circular driveway in front of the large rotunda and silver statue/fountain.  The festival and courtyard are right there.  Continue forward to circle back to the parking structure.

Accessibility

The festival and performance area are both wheelchair accessible.

Bus Route

Alverno College is on the number 50 Morgan Avenue bus line.  If you exit the bus at 43rd Street, you will be at the corner of Morgan and 43rd Street, the southwest corner of the Alverno College campus.

What to Do Once You Arrive

Come Early, Select Your Seats, Picnic and Enjoy our Displays and Some Music!

 Check in

There will be a table clearly marked inviting you to come and check in for your reservation.  You may sit anywhere you like.  When you check in, you will be offered pre-taped slips so that you may go into the audience area and stake out your seats.   Access to select your seats begins around 7:00 p.m.

Picnic!

Bring a picnic or enjoy one of your many food options for sale.  Every evening, beginning at around 6:00 p.m., food and beverage concessions are open.  Come early and picnic on the grass or picnic tables.  Please, no grilling and please do not bring in any outside wine or beer.  Wine and beer will be available for sale at the concessions table.

Concessions will be cash only and are provided by Alverno Food Services.

Enjoy the pre-show entertainment

Most evenings, there will be free musical entertainment to enjoy while you picnic and relax.

There will be visual displays related to Twelfth Night for your perusal and enjoyment.

Post-performance Talk Backs are scheduled whenever requested.  Email SSFry@OptimistTheatre.org and let me know that you’d like to participate in one and we’ll make it happen.

Trouble-shooting

Rain, Rain, Go Away

In the case of rain, the show will go on.  If the weather turns truly stormy, Optimist Theatre may cancel the performance.

Detailed Driving Directions

From South of Milwaukee / Chicago

Take I-94 north to Milwaukee. Take Howard/Holt Avenue exit. Exit on Holt and go west (left). Holt becomes Morgan Avenue. Continue going west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The college’s main entrance will be on your right.

From North of Milwaukee / Green Bay

Take I-43 south to Milwaukee. Proceed to I-94 toward Chicago. Exit on Holt Avenue, go west. Holt becomes Morgan Ave. Continue going west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The college’s main entrance will be on your right.

From West of Milwaukee / Madison

Take I-94 east to Milwaukee to Miller Park Way (south). Miller Park Way becomes 43rd Street. Continue south on 43rd Street past Oklahoma Avenue. The college’s main entrance will be on your left.  PLEASE NOTE:  Construction along the east-west corridor of I-94 is creating some substantial delays in your drive.  Please allow more time.

From Mitchell International Airport

Take the Downtown Milwaukee exit and go north on I-94. Take the Howard/Holt Avenue exit. Exit on Holt and go west (left). Holt becomes Morgan Avenue. Continue going west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The college’s main entrance will be on your right.
